SLOWING SOIL EROSION AND RESTORE DEGRADED LANDS IN HIGH ALTITUDE WITH LOCAL COMMUNITIES

CASE FOR ACTION

Severe soil degradation on the slopes and landslides, decline in agricultural productivity on lower slopes, leading to a fall in community income.

NATURE PROGRAM

12,000 ha of Pine radiata to be planted, while restoring the woodland formations bordering watercourses with indigenous species. Afforestation will help to lower soil erosion and improve environmental and agronomic conditions.

SOCIAL PLAN

Community-based deployment financed by a large proportion of initial investments and long-term carbon revenue sharing. Wood harvest as well as mushrooms cultivation and processing as new sources of income for the communities.

LAND AND CONTRACT

The land belongs to the communities involved in the project with a clear legal right to transfer the ownership of carbon credits to an external company.

ALIGNMENT WITH NATIONAL POLICY

Afforestation is a key NDC commitment. Carbon regulation is in progress, It is favorable to foreign investments and the development of the voluntary market.
